The Jeromes are a soul/funk band from France who debuted in
2020 with a single "Since I Let You Go" which is included on their debut album "Love Peace and Soul" released today (19 Feb '23). Anthony De Fretias, Antoine Demantke and Ludovic Bors feature on most, if not all, of the writing credits, along with China Paige (Chynna Leonard), although the first three are not members of the group.
China Paige is the lead vocalist who began her career in
California in 2001 as background vocalist for Diana Ross and then for the
late Mary Wilson who she toured with. China is the god daughter of Maxayn
Lewis (aka Paulette Parker) who was a member of The Ikettes and in the 70s joined the group Maxayn who later became Mandre (on Motown) named after the man she married, Michael Andre Lewis. She also released a couple of singles as Paulette Parker on Duke in 1969 with "(Gimme Back) My Man" getting action on the talcumed dancefloors, and "I Pity The Fool" a nice deep soul number.
It's good album if you like retro funky soul. I haven't settled on a
standout track as yet but "Secrets", "Don't Call" and "Seine Saint Denis Mood" seem to be the ones that resonate on first listen. The Northern Soulies might take to "Falling In Love" as it has that Motown beat.
