A new single from October London on Death Row
Records "Back To Your Place" (released today 3 Feb '23) has more than a few hints of Marvin's "Distant
Lover" to these ears.
Now that should come as no great surprise when you learn that it's from a
three set album "The Birth of Marvin" (Set 1: The Hope, Set 2: The Grind and
Set 3: The Ascent). There's a bit of back a story to the album as it was
released last year (1 Apr) exclusively from Gala Music and was only
available, from what I can ascertain, on 8 Track cartridge tape (remember those?) via NFTs (Non-fungible tokens ... look it up). I believe that they are all sold out and were retailing for Set 1: $500, Set 2: $750 and Set 3: $800. I'll be perfectly honest, I don't understand what the full scenario was, very strange. The story's here if you can fathom it out.
However, I believe that the album will be released on digital platforms
next Friday. It includes "Mullholland Drive" (released on Snoop Dogg's album
last year) and the single featured here so, based on the quality of both of
those, expectations are high.
October London is Jared Samuel Erskine from South Ben, IN. He took his stage name from the month he was born and his fascination with London. He was introduced to Snoop Dogg by Yung Quincy and took his bow on the music scene in July 2016 featuring on Snoop Dogg's "Cool Aid" album on the track "Revolution". Later that month he made his solo debut with "Black Man in America" followed by an album "Color Blind: Love" on Jazze Pha's Cadillac Music label, not surprisingly in October. His sophomore album "Color Blind: Hate & Happiness" arrived in Apr 2017.
