Exactly two weeks ago today we posted a posthumous birthday tribute to
EWF's Maurice White. We are saddened to learn of the death of his
younger brother and EWF drummer Frederick Eugene 'Freddie' White
yesterday aged 67.
Prior to joining his brothers Maurice, Verdine and road manager Monte in EWF aged 19 in 1974 he performed on Donny
Hathaway's Live album in 1972 as well as "Extensions Of A Man" in 1973
along with albums by Voices of East Harlem, Willie Hutch (Fully Exposed),
Caston & Majors, Linda Ronstadt and rock back Little Feat.
His first album with EWF was "That's The Way Of The World" (1975) and he
remained with the group until the mid 80s playing on nine albums, but
also appeared on albums by The Emotions, Deniece Williams, Glady Knight
& The Pip, Deodato, Ramsey Lewis, Stanley Turrentine, Jennifer
Holliday and Ronnie Laws amongst others..
The sad news was announced by brother Verdine on his facebook page
stating that he now joins brothers Maurice (4 Feb 2016 74), Ronald
and Monte (21 Apr 2020 66).
