Sad news has broken that UK soul singer Noel McCoy has died aged 60. The
news was broken by his good friend Omar on his
facebook
page at 8pm last night. Noel was currently part of a quartet know as
The British Collective with Omar, Junior (Giscombe) and Don-E.
Noel was born in Clapham South, London on 20 Dec 1961 and lived with his
aunt Winnie who came to London in the 1940s and then later sent for the
whole family to come over. They moved to Battersea in 1968. His mum and
aunt were both singers and Noel got involved in music early on and
formed a school band called "The Albions". He put on many events in his
teen years which also involved a dance group that evolved into "The
Pasadenas" who had a UK Top Ten Hit with "Tribute (Right On)" which
reached #5 in the UK charts.
Afterwards Noel continued to tour and perform in backing bands and was
involved with many recording artists including The McKoy Family with
sister Junette and two brothers Cornell and Robin, Outnumbered, James
Taylor Quartet, The Max.
He released his first single as member of reggae band The Albians in 1979
and later became a member of The James Taylor Quartet.

Unknown to me but nevertheless endearing singer. I really enjoyed his CD "Brighter Day".

Noel was such a humble and talented artist I can't believe he's gone. Last spoke to him only a few months ago. RIEP
