Northern Soul followers of the blog will have noticed a couple of
"Mountain of Soul" compilations from Charly Records posted in the last few weeks. The latest, "Mountain Of Soul Episode 2", on Sunday where we mentioned that the
tracks were to be made available on vinyl.
Charly Records announced the opening of their store today and a few
of the tracks are now available on 7".
One that is pretty sure to sell out
is the 94 East single, which includes the track featured on
the compilation "If We Don't" along with "I'll Always Love You", as neither side has been available on 7" vinyl previously, although they did
feature on a vinyl LP in 2016 "94East Featuring Prince".
The songs were recorded circa 1975-79 but, for whatever reason, were never
released at the time but have surfaced on a number of 94 East compilations
subsequently.
The lead voice is that of Colonel Abrams with Prince on guitar and André Cymone was also a member. The group was based in Minneapolis, formed by Pepe Miller who was married to Prince's cousin and named after the Interstate 94. They disbanded when Prince rose to fame which is perhaps why the songs weren't released.
The single is available to pre-order from
Charly
for release on 9 Dec 2022. Watch these fly out and be up on Discogs for
multiple times the face value within days! You have been warned, so if you
want one get your order in now!
Charly states that there is a upcoming house mix of "I'll Always Love You".
