Lynn Davis' name is probably best known for featuring in The George Duke Band and
leading on his 1979 hit "I Want You For Myself" (video included below along with the full 12"/album version NB there is
also a 2018
Tom Moulton Mix HERE). She joined Duke in 1977 and toured with him until 1987 featuring on
lead and background vocals on many of his albums.
She has also provided background vocals for many other artists including
Lalo Schifrin, Flora Purim, Twennynine & Lenny White, Patrice Rushen,
LaToya Jackson, Seawind, Con Funk Shun, Sheree Brown, Syreeta, Brothers
Johnson, Chaka Khan / Rufus, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Jeffrey Osbourne,
Howard Hewett, Anita Baker and the list goes on. (her full discography
here). It is claimed that she is one of the most recorded session singers in
the music industry and as well as soul music artists has sung with many
mainstream artists such as Madonna, Mick Jagger, Meatloaf, Barbara
Streisand, Celine Dion, Elton John, Mariah Carey and Whitney
Houston.
Not only is Lynn a singer but also a writer and producer having
contributed to albums by Patrice Rushen, LaToya Jackson and Tracie Spencer
amongst others including a single for Bunny Sigler.
Unbelievably, until now, as I guess she has just been so busy touring
with established artists, she has not released any solo material. This
Friday (14 Oct 2022) she releases her debut single "Can I Come Over" which we are told is from a forthcoming album "Lynn Davis Form The Vault" both released on her own Bella Records.
The single also comes with a video, a short extract included below, and I
hope you'll agree she is still in very fine voice. Davis possesses a
five-octave vocal range, and has the ability to reach notes beyond the 6th
octave.

Surprising that she never made an album at the time of George Duke that I had the pleasure of seeing with her friend Stanley Clarke in the 70s. Yet she would have deserved like so many others!!!
