Leroy Allen is from Houston, TX, and was a member of the male group
The Symphonics (there was a female group with the name
who recorded on Brunswick and ABC) who later became
God's Gift To Women who recorded two singles in the 70s,
the first on A-I (dist. by All Platinum) followed by another on
Listening Post.
In the 80s he formed Perfect Timin' and released an
album and three singles on T.S.O.T. (The Sound Of Texas).
In more recent times he's released a number of singles including a
cover of Rockie Robbins' "You And Me" in Apr 2021, and Tesla Groove released a pair of songs on
7" "You're The Best" which was featured on an album released in Apr 2020 ("Leroy Allen & Evette Busby - CMN Records Presents The Singers") and "I Love You" which was released as a single in 2020. His last single, "You're That Kinda Woman", (Apr 2022) passed me by so is included below.
He is back with another cover, this time of the Eddie Floyd song "I've Never Found A Girl (To Love Me Like You Do)" which was featured a few weeks back via Sammy Acuna's version on the
"With Love Vol. 1" compilation.
I've scraped together a playlist of different versions, there are others
but I think these are probably the best ones (that are available on
Spotify at least).

Magnificent song. Just missing those of our great Major Lance, Marvin Holmes & The Uptights, Ollie & The Nightingales, Joseph Henry & The Mighty Imperials, Calvin Scott!!! I think we've done the trick.

Here are more by Calvin Scott, Underground Express, Huey Lewis and The News, R.L. Griffin, Kenny Hamber.

Thanks Yves .. I think Underground Express is a different song ... written by Louis Dunn ... very good funky tune though! ... and pretty scarce with a high price tag
ReplyDeleteNot feeling the Huey Lewis one.
Can't find a sound file for R.L. Lewis (and only listed as a cassette album Step from 2001 which seems very odd? https://www.discogs.com/release/10017465-RL-Griffin-Step)
The Kenny Hamber one was mentioned on the post for his recent single . but vinyl only 12" with a dubious 7" pressing (https://soulstrutter.blogspot.com/2022/08/kenny-hamber-2022-used-ta-be-my-girl.html)
UPDATE Kenny Hamber was released on CD by It's Soul Time in 2007
