Darryl Anders AgapéSoul [2022] - Heart Conditions [AgapéSoul Music] (Full EP)

The first new music from Darryl Anders AgapéSoul since his UK Soul Chart topping "Nobody But You" in April 2021 featuring sometime Incognito lead vocalist Maysa Leak, (who of course has a great new single out climbing the charts right now "Whatever") will be released this Friday (21 Oct 2022).

It's a six track EP "Heart Conditions" with the lead single being "Breathless" featuring Zoe Ellis (posted yesterday) who has been a big part of the AgapéSoul family from the start, contributing to lead vocals and co-writing several songs including "Kite", "The Way That We Love" and "Changes" from the second album "Conversations" and "Breathless" from the current EP.

AgapéSoul is the brainchild of Oakland, CA, based bassist, songwriter, and producer Darryl Anders whose resume includes playing with the legendary Tower of Power, and recording and performing with Meters drummer, and founding member, Zigaboo Modeliste featuring on his 2000 solo debut album "Zigaboo.com".

Darryl explains that the name AgapéSoul comes from the Greek word Agape, meaning God’s unconditional love and Soul, the place within us where music comes from.

The debut album "Believe In Love" (2012) earned comparisons to popular r&b/jazz ensembles Incognito and The Brand New Heavies and reached #1 on the UK Soul Chart. The 2018 follow-up "Conversations" also made a big noise worldwide hitting the #1 spot twice on both the UK Soul Chart and the Indie Soul Chart in the US.

The "Heart Conditions" EP includes the two previous singles "Bulletproof" (Sep 2020) feat. Tommy Sims, the poignant chorus lyric of which, "you can kill the man but you can't kill the message", rings true as a timeless anthem (and has an accompanying gritty video  below), "Nobody But You" feat. Maysa Leak (Apr 2021) along, of course, with the latest single "Breathless".

Darryl tells us that Tommy Sims is his mentor and friend and modern soul aficionados will know Tommy's work from his superb 2000 album "Peace And Love". Agapesoul used to open their shows with two of the tracks from the album "A New Jam" and "100". It appears to be Tommy's only album so far but he has worked with trumpeter Phil Lassiter on "Pick Myself Up" ("DreamZzz" 2014) and "Figure it Out" ("Philthy" 2014) and Darryl informs me that he is working on a new album.

Another sometime lead vocalist with Incognito, Tony Momrelle features on "Last Romance" introduced to Darryl by Maysa. Fred Ross provides the lead vocals for a cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" and Nate Soulsanger is lead on "Sad But True".

The musicians on the EP are Sundra Manning,  Aaron Haggerty (drums),  Lionel 'LJ' Holoman (keys), Lynette Williams (keys), 'Big Thomas' McCree (drums), background vocals: Sara Williams, Mickala Cheadle Josey and Josh Carter, Jeanne Geiger (trombone), Mike Olmos (trumpet), Jesse Lebitt (sax), Vicki Randle and Lindsay Ferguson (percussion), Errol Cooney (guitar), 'The Rainmaker' Cam Perridge (guitar/engineer/co-producer) and of course Darry Anders (bass).

The EP will also be available on CD.
