Kitt & Big Muff [2022] - My Funny Valentine (NerdStar Remix) [Justin Time Records]

I have to confess I've never really been a great lover of this Hart & Rodgers standard "My Funny Valentine" but this latest version takes it to a new level. A very fresh, contemporary and jazzy interpretation by Kitt which has had a NerdStar Remix applied and released today (9 Sep 2022).

A quick look at SecondHandSongs which lists no fewer that 1,238 different versions, and undoubtedly there will  be many others not listed. The song was originally written for a 1937 Broadway musical "Babes In Arms" and performed by Mitzi Green.

Kitt is Katherine Penfold from Vancouver (Canada) who released material under her real name dating back to 2017 including an album "Sweetest Thing" in 2019 which on a very quick skim through sounds quite good as it leans towards jazz/soul.

She changed her stage name to Kitt in 2021 debuting under this name with "It's Alright" and followed it with "Amnesia" which was posted last September.

Her debut album using the name Kitt was "State Of Mind"  (27 May 2021) which is a collection of all seven singles she's released along with five new songs. Many of them are acoustic, some with hints of jazz.

Big Muff is Itaal Shur who had a modest UK hit with the song from his "Aurally Exciting Remixes" album in 2000 which contained three different dance/house mixes of it. He co-wrote the classic "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)" on Maxwell's seminal debut album "Urban Hang Suite" (1996) whilst he was a (founding) member of Groove Collective.
