Val B. King is from Cleveland, OH, and is the granddaughter
of the legendary B. B. King, so it's hardly surprising that she has
included one of his iconic songs "The Thrill Is Gone" on her sophomore
album "So Many Ways" released on Friday (19 Aug 2022) on Bandcamp only. It follows her 2016 debut "Life, Love, Music".
B.B. King didn't write the song, it was written by Rick Darnell and Roy
Hawkins but is incorrectly credited to A (Art) Benson and D (Dale) Pettie
on King's 1969 Bluesway release. On Val's new version, the album's
producer, Frank McComb is also credited, presumably for the
re-arrangement.
To date, Val B. King has released four singles since 2016 and the last
three are all included on the album "So Many Ways, Than One" (Sep 2019 feat. Frank McComb), "Ooh You" (Aug 2020 featuring Najee on flute and Frank McComb on backing vocals)
and "The Thrill Is Gone" (Jan 2022). Her first single, "The Legacy Goes On" (Feb 2016), featured on "Life, Love, Music".
Two, non-single, tracks stood out on first listen, "Hold Me" and the stepper "Gotta Find You".
