Something a little different, an album of mainly 70s style Blaxploitation
instrumentals from 10th Street with a self-titled album
released today (23 Aug 2022).
The album was recorded at Soul Fire Studios, Brooklyn, NYC, over the
course of two years with the contribution of over two dozen of the best NYC
musicians and features members of El Michels Affair, Lee Fields & The
Expressions, The Dap- Kings, Antibalas and more.
They say it's "a nod to late 70’s disco, funk and boogie is sure to be a future
classic!"
All songs are credited to Jeff Silverman, Leon Michels and Michael Leonhart. I don't think they are a
band as such, more a studio project.
Produced and engineered by Jeff ‘Dynamite’ Silverman (Soul Fire Records,
Truth & Soul Records, Aloe Blacc), assistant engineered by Lucas
Goodman (Lion Babe), mixed by Chris Connors (Liam Bailey, Holy Hive) and
mastered by Ryan Schwabe.
Michael Leonhart (horn arrangements), Leon Michels (string arrangements)
with Terri Walker (Lady) and Camille Sledge (Sister Sledge, Phoenix
Afrobeat Orchestra) on vocals.
The album was pre-released on
Bandcamp
on 12 Aug where it is also available on vinyl. It's their debut album so other bands with the same name are not the same group.
