Verne 'VA' Allison, is the son of Verne Allison (The Dells second tenor) and
Marvin J, is the son of Marvin Junior (The Dells lead singer) (and how he sounds
like him!). They released a new single "Missin' You" yesterday, along with a supporting video which includes cameo appearances from the only two surviving members of The Dells
Michael 'Mickey' McGill and
Verne Allison Sr. (@1:40).
The song 'reimagines' The Dells "Baby Come Back" from their "Reminiscing" album 2000 which Verne 'VA' Allison wrote for them.
I've waxed lyrical regarding The Dells long career previously suffice to
say that they were formed in 1952 as The El-Rays, changing their name to The
Dells in 1955 and recorded/performed up until 2012 when the illness of
Marvin Junior and Chuck Barksdale forced them into retirement. Marvin Junior
died the following year and Barksdale in 2019. The other original member
Johnny Funches died in 1998 being replaced by Johnny Carter who died in
2009.
