It's Father's Day in the UK so here's a few versions of "Color Him Father" which was a big US hit for The Winstons in 1969 written by member Richard Spencer. The flip side was "Amen, Brother",
one of the most sampled hip hop breaks in history.
O.C. Smith covered it on his "At Home" album in 1969.
The Naturals as the B side to the excellent cover of Tommy
James & The Shondell's "Crystal Blue Persuasion" in 1974 (and of course there's other great versions by The Kelly
Brothers and also Joe Bataan (both 1969)), and released again on their
1975 follow up single "Cold Day In Hell").
Bobby Womack recorded it on "Resurrection" in 1994 and it was also on a single as the B side of "Forever Love"
which I believe was CD or 12" only.
