A debut single by Susey Wendy Blum from Mannheim, Germany with an upbeat cover of Burt Bacharach's standard "(They Long To Be) Close To You". When I saw the cover photo I thought she look very young and then discovered that she is only ten years old.
The 'definitive' version is considered to be by /The Carpenters from 1970, however the actor Richard Chamberlain (Dr. Kildare for those old enough to remember or The Thorn birds if a bit younger) recorded it first in 1963.
The song has been recorded literally hundreds of times, some of the more notable versions for soul lovers include:
Dionne Warwick (1964)
Diana Ross (1970)
Nancy Wilson (1970)
Bobby Womack (1971)
Isaac Hayes (1971)
The Dells (1972)
Soul Searchers (a nice deep version 1974)
B.T. Express (1975)
Jimmy Bo Horne (1979)
Soiree (1979)
Gwen Guthrie (1986)
Gerald Levert & Tamia (2003)
Ron Isley (2003)
Bunny Sigler (2003)
Paul Weller (2004)
Jeffrey Osborne (2013)
Ruben Studdard (2014)
Jonathan Butler (2018).
