The computer animated comedy film, Minions: The Rise of Gru (the follow up
to Minions from 2015) is set for screening on Friday 1 Jul 2022.
It is set in the 70s and has a soundtrack of, in the main, re-recorded
versions of some 70s soul/funk tracks. Five have already been pre-released,
the latest by H.E.R. last Friday with an interpretation of Sly & The
Family Stone's "Dance To The Music" (1967).
Others, so far released, include Diana Ross & Tame Impala "Turn Up
The Sunshine" (19 May which I think is an original song, or at least I
don't recognise it as a cover?), St. Vincent "Funkytown" (3 Jun) (Lipps
Inc. 1972), BROCKHAMPTON "Hollywood Swinging" (17 Jun) (Kool & The
Gang 1974), Kali Uchis "Desafinado" (27 May) (Ella Fitzgerald 1962).
You can click on album cover for a full listing of the 19 tracks due on
Friday (1 Jul). The only one that looks semi-interesting is Brittany
Howard with, presumably, a cover of EWF's "Shining Star".
