A new feature for the blog is a weekly podcast from 'The Soul Master'
Steve Aggasild. Steve holds the record of having 'probably' the world's longest running soul show on
radio which ran for 30 years from Apr 1982 up to Apr 2012 on Aberdeen's
Northsound Radio. He had to leave the station in 2012 owing to overseas work
commitments but later continued to do shows on several internet soul radio
stations, most recently Starpoint Radio before joining Soul Groove Radio
last year.
Steve now does two shows on Soul Groove Radio: Mon 18:00-20:00 (BST)
and Thu 14:00-16:00 (BST). In the first hour he delves into his music library for
oldies ending with three slow jams and the second hour is dedicated to new
releases.
I have known Steve since 1976 when we met at a little soul club in sunny
Aberdeen. The main reason I distinctly remember the year is that it was
named 'The Center City Soul Club' after Fat Larry's Band's "Center City"
released stateside that year. Other regular attendees included
Keb Darge (who of course went on to DJ at The Top Of The World, Stafford in the
80s (amongst many other venues) and then digressed (some may say
transgressed) into Deep Funk, Rockabilly and now 60s Garage),
Billy Davidson (a mainstay DJ at Southport Weekenders who was
featured in Blues & Soul in 2008 for Southport 42, the 20th anniversary, as it was his last
appearance), not forgetting Irvi Milne and
Neil 'Speedy' Allen who were both instrumental in establishing Northern Soul
All-Nighters in Aberdeen.
