Michelle Brooks-Thompson, and not forgetting Regi Myrix, released "Then I Met You" only a
couple of weeks ago on 29 Apr and it is #6 on the current UK Soul Chart (after entering at #20 last week).
Nigel Lowis has added his magic to the original version with a new Nigel Lowis Remix due for release on 20 May 2022. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this
new mix is 'meatier' and brings Michelle's excellent vocals more to
the fore. Whilst the original was probably more jazz flavoured, the new
version is even more soulful. I've included both version below so you can compare for yourself.
Michelle first rose to fame as a finalist on The Voice (US) in 2012.
As with many powerhouse vocalists, she served her 'apprenticeship' in
the church with gospel music from a young age and is a graduate of the
prestigious Berklee College of Music.
She had a hit at the tail end of 2021 with the uptempo "Live It Up" which followed the ballad "Woman First" from May 2021. Her latest single sits between the two style-wise as
is an emotional ballad/stepper on which her gospel influenced vocals
are in evidence especially in the end quarter of the song.
The song was written by Ty Juan, who also provided backing vocals along with Nia Simmons, and produced by Regi Myrix and will be released on 20 May 2022.
