This single by Candy McKenzie popped up with the new
releases on Friday which at first I thought was odd, until I discovered
that it must be a digital reissue as it was put out on a UK 12" by
Intense
in 1983 which sell for big money. There are only three currently for sale
on Discogs from £150 to £215, so it must be in-demand in certain
quarters?
It is, of course, a cover of Patrice Rushen's "Remind Me" ("Straight From The Heart" (1982)) which was also covered last year by
Butcher Brown & Alex Isley.
Candy McKenzie was (she died in 2003) a singer from Kilburn, London, who sang backing vocals
for many reggae artists including Bob Marley. In 1977 she few to Jamaica
to record an album with Lee 'Scratch' Perry ("Lee 'Scratch' Perry Presents Candy McKenzie") which was turned down by Island at the time and lay in the vaults
until gaining a release on Trojan in 2011.
