The Jazz Defenders are a quintet from Bristol (UK) formed in 2015 by pianist George Cooper and include Nicholas Dover (sax), Nick Malcolm (trumpet), Will Harris (bass) and Matt Brown (drums). They came together drawn by a mutual love and respect for soul-jazz and classic hard bop – the music of the Golden Age of Blue Note.
Their debut album "Scheming" (2 Dec 2019) gained plaudits from Jamie Cullum, Craig Charles and Snowboy (Mark Cotgrove Acid Jazz) and many others. The sophomore album "King Phoenix" is due out on 18 Mar 2022 and "Perfectly Imperfect" from it, featuring Doc Brown, has been released as a single on 18 Feb 2022.
