One of the biggest recent finds on the UK Northern Soul scene, played at London's 100 Club, is Melvin Hicks & The Versatiles "The
Intruder".
The record was written by Ray Dahrouge (who wrote and recorded the Anderson Brothers classic "I Can See Him Loving You") and Billy Terrell who unearthed a
Vigor test pressing among his collection and submitted it to Kent for
consideration. Kent picked up on the flip side initially, a deep soul
ballad "I'm Just Passing Time", which they issued as a single on their Deep
Soul imprint.
"The Intruder" was arranged by Tony Camillo but was never released by
Vigor but is lined up for the next release on Kent Select, due 25 Mar 2022, flipped with
another Terrell penned song by Clarence Pinkney "Just Outside Of
Lonely".
The track was included on the Kent compilation "Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities Volume 7" released last March.
Available to pre-order from Kent.
