Blue Lab Beats are a London 'Jazzatronic' (their word) duo Namali Kwaten (NK-OK) and David Mrakpor (MR DM) who were signed to the
legendary Blue Note label in 2020.
Their music has been described as a fusion of Hip Hop, R&B ,Jazz &
Afrobeat which has sprung the term Jafrobeat.
To date they've released three albums "Xover" (2017), "Voyage" (2019) and "The Sounds Of Afrotronica" (2021) and today (25 Feb 2022), their fourth "Motherland Journey".
There are guest appearances on twelve of the seventeen tracks from artists
such as Ego Ella May, Emmavie, Pip Millett, Teni Tinks, Kofi Stone and
several others.
There's a lot of tracks to wade through but on first skim I think my choice
cuts would be the title track "Motherland Journey" and "A Vibe" which are both mainly instrumentals and "Slow Down" feat. Ego Ella May along with "I’ll Be Here For You" feat. Teni Tinks" (a cover of
Caroline Crawford's song from "Nice And Soulful" (1979)) and "Don't Let It Get Away" feat. Eammavie.
