Wayne Brady [2008] - A Change Is Gonna Come [Concorde]

In 2008 TV personality, comedian, actor and singer Wayne Brady released an album titled  "A Long Time Coming". I noticed yesterday that it appears to have been reissued digitally and includes one of the ground breaking and iconic soul songs of all time, Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" from 1964.  

Cooke wrote the song after inspiration hearing Bob Dylan's "Blowing In The Wind" and the strive for civil rights. It was released on his album "Ain't That Good News" in March 1964 but not released as a single until December. Cooke was shot dead aged just 33 by the female manager of Hacienda Motel, L.A. on 11 Dec 1964, just two weeks before it's release! The death was ruled as justifiable homicide.

Believe it or not "A Change Is Gonna Come" was released as the B side to "Shake", presumably as it was considered too politically sensitive at the time to release as the A side?

Whether or not it has been reissued is irrelevant really as it's a good version amongst literally hundreds of version that have been recorded over the years.

Josh Berkeley [2021] - Caravan Of Love [Self Relased]

Back in August I selected "Just As Friends" by Josh Berkeley as the SoulStrutter Selection of the Week. It appears that that song is no longer available on any of the DSPs!  On the strength of that single, I subsequently posted his album "Sunday Morning" from 2020.

On 29 Oct 2021 he released a cover of Isley Jasper Isley's "Caravan Of Love". It makes a change from the dreaded Houemartins version who had a UK #1 hit with it at Christmas 1986 (the group included Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim).

According to SecondHandSongs there are around twenty other versions of the song listed, the most notable being by Terry Callier in 2002 from his "Speak Your Peace" album (posted below).

Key LeBlanc is a singer/songwriter and guitarist from Louisiana, now based in Dallas, TX. She released here eighth single, "Hey Babe", since 2019 yesterday (29 Oct 2021) and is currently working of her debut EP.

Fallon Favors [2021] - Flowerchild [M.A.D.E.L.I.F.E. Entertainment] (Full EP)

A new six track EP "Flowerchild" from Fallon Favors was released on 28 Oct 2021. It's her third EP since 2018. I've revisited this EP a few times but have just let it play through and it is rather good when you listen to it properly rather than just sampling it.  I'm struggling to select a standout as they are all about equal.

I'm unable to find a lot of info about the artist, but if it's the same person, she is from L.A. and appeared in a US TV series College Hill in 2007.

Funkee Boy [2021] - Elevate [Self Released] (Full Album)

Bobbi 'Funkee Boy' Tamaro released a new album "Elevate" last week (22 Oct 2021). The opening track "A Better Way" is a killer and there are two different versions of it. I'm not decided on which is the better as they are both good, the first is predominantly female, and second male, vocalists. 

The rest of the album is pretty good as well and If I had to select other standout tracks I would go for "Breathless", "Perfect Fit" (which was released as a single at the start of Oct) but I'm sure you'll have your own favourites.

UPDATE After a bit of digging around I've discovered that "A Better Way" Feat Timmy Maia was released as a single on 7 Jul 2020 and the International Artists Version on 26 Feb 2021.

Bim [2021 - I Still Remember [Trumpets & Timbrels]

Bim (Abimbola Amoako-Gyampah) is a singer/songwriter from London with gospel roots which is evident from her mezzo soprano vocals on her latest single "I Still Remember" released yesterday (29 Oct 2021).  

It's only her second (solo) single which follows "O.T.R." released in June, although it seems that she may have featured on a few house tracks since 2019.
