Prospect Park [2021] - Shake It Up Tonight [Z Records]

Cheryl Lynn is probably best know for her 1978 disco hit "Got To Be Real" or maybe "Encore" and possibly her duet with Luther Vandross on the cover of the Gaye & Terrell ballad "If This World Were Mine".

Her underground dance anthem "Shake It Up Tonight" from 1981 has just been reworked by UK remix maestro Dave Lee (Joey Negro) under his Prospect Park alias and released on 1 Oct 2021 with three versions.

Elli Ingram [2021] - Strange How Good Things Change [Pinc Records]

A belated posting for this track by Brighton's Elli Ingram which was included in yesterday's Dirty Dozen after first hearing it played as one of Franklin Sinclair's Essential 5 which is a precursor to the Global Soul chart rundown. "Strange How Good Things Change" has been around a while since 30 Aug 2021.

Elli Ingram is no newcomer as she debuted in 2013 with an EP "Sober" after gaining attention on YouTube for a cover version of Kendrick Lamar's "No Justice".  She released a full length album "Love You Really" in 2017 and  around five singles to date but this is her first release this year.

The new single is classy blue-eyed neo soul with a jazz edge.

BenzoTheSinger [2021] - Could This Be Love (Romantic Mix EP) [Self Released]

The best track from a six track EP ("Romantic Mix") self-released by BenzoTheSinger (aka Benjamin Reynarld May III from Atlanta,GA) (30 Sep 2021).

Whether it's a sample or not I'm not exactly sure but "Could This Be Love" certainly 'borrows' considerably from Brandy's 1994 hit "I Wanna Be Down"!

Down To Earth - A Testimonial

Later today Down To Earth will be announced as #1 on the UK Soul Chart as published by Starpoint Radio in conjunction with several other stations.

I was notified of the great news by the band yesterday and they sent me this lovely 'endorsement' which I'd like to share as this, for me, is what the blog is all about i.e. supporting artists to keep the music we love alive and this epitomises what can be achieved jointly.

"We have been speaking with Soulstrutter for a few weeks now and the blog and reviews written about Down To Earth we feel has been incredibly important and instrumental in pushing us into the light as a new Artist / Band. The Soulstrutter blog is seen by thousands of fans and lovers of soul music and Artists too. The blog is an invaluable tool for us all to connect especially for new up and coming artists looking to break into the soul scene ... we are proof that it works by recently celebrating our number 1 Album "Still Ridin' Highin the UK soul charts! We would like to send our heartfelt thanks to Soulstrutter for helping us achieve our lifelong dream, long may it continue."

Stevie Paul & Lol Williams Down To Earth

As Stevie & Lol stated above we have been speaking since I first listened to the album on it's day of release but couldn't find any information about them so contacted their label Speegra and subsequently got in touch with both Stevie and Lol. Their name couldn't be more appropriate as 'Down To Earth' they certainly are. I am so pleased for them as these guys have most certainly paid their dues and any success coming their way is well and truly earned and deserved. Any little help I have been able to provide to steer them on their way has been my privilege, but in reality the album and the quality of their music speaks for itself and did all the work! I am very pleased that the album has been warmly embraced by the UK soul music fraternity and that my initial 'gut' reaction to it, and subsequent review of it, as been vindicated! As they say 'cream always rise to the top'!

Not resting on their laurels, the boys have told me they are already working on a follow-up album, but after the many years they have spent in the music business I think they could be forgiven for taking time to enjoy their well earned success with this album first. Well done and congratulations lads! A nicer couple of fellas you'd be lucky to meet!

Thanks must also go to Gary Van Den Bussche for distributing the blog post to radio stations and DJs along with the album promotion and the many radio presenters who have programmed tracks from the album.

Only a few months ago similar results were achieved by Tygressa Jones after premiering her debut release "Hey You (A Minute With You)" here in the UK on 1 Jul 2021 which went to #1 on Starpoint UK Soul chart (26 Jul) and #1 on Global Soul chart for two weeks (24 & 31 Jul) .  Can Kenya Soulsinger, who's EP "Catch This Smoke" was premiered here only last week, be next?

Artists/labels/promoters are invited and encouraged to share blog posts on their social media to promote their music.
