Beth Macari [2021] - Love You More - The Remixes [Self Released]

On Wednesday I posted a web exclusive for Beth Macari's new single "Love You More" due tomorrow (30 Jul 2021). 

I posted the "Radio Edit" and the "Nigel Lowis Remix". I've just received two additional mixes "Frank Blythe's Jazzy Swing" and an "Original Extended Mix"  which will only be available from BandCamp.

Joëlle Buyckx [2021] - All The Time / Just A Fool [Self Released]

A new single from a new artist from Miami, Joëlle Buyckx who released her debut single "Just A Fool" on 28 May 2021. 

She released a follow up "All The Time" on  9 Jul 2021. I think the first single is better so I am taking the opportunity to post both as I don't think I've seen either of these tracks on any playlists so it looks like they got passed by.

Felony Davis [2021] - We Love Summer [Chicago Sons Records]

I'm not sure whether or not this Felony Davis is the same artist who was a member of Public Announcement who spelt his name Feloney, but also used just Felony? If not, then this is the only release listed for this artist. 

"We Love Summer" is a single released on 19 Jul 2021. It was going strong until around 2:30 when the rap came in for about 40 seconds which will turn some off and no doubt turn others on!

UnitedSoul [2021] - Expansions E.P. [R2 Records] (Full EP)

Lonnie Liston Smith's jazz funk masterpiece "Expansions" gets several 2021 updates via Japan’s UnitedSoul (DJ Uchikawa and Soul-T) on R2 Records (released 23 Jul 2021). Is it really as long ago as 1975 when Lonnie Liston Smith originally recorded it on Flying Dutchman?

Osunlade was enlisted to bring the funk out in his extended “Yoruba Soul Mix”. Ian Friday did the "Libation Remake" featuring Byron J Moore on vocals and Chi-Town’s Excursions crew (Cordell Johnson & Skorpeze) take it into club territory with their “Excursions Go Deep Remix”.

The first four mixes are available on 12" on Loft Records (available here for £16)

I haven't yet settled on my favourite from the five, but on first hearing I suspect it will be the Libation Remake, but probably only as it is the closest to the original, which in all honesty just can't be beaten!

I simply couldn't omit to include the original!

Doobie Powell [2021] - Gemini [Peculiar Music Group] (Full Album)

Doobie Powell's last album "All Things" was featured here in March. Since then he has put out another titled "Gemini" on 14 Jun 2021 which somehow passed me by. It features many guest artists including Najee, Chantae Cann (who also featured on D Mills latest album "Prism" released earlier this month), Serena Young, Lil' Mo and several others.

The top tracks, for me, are two on which he goes it alone, Herbie Hancock's "Trust Me" and "I Know", along with a version of Billy Preston's "That's The Way God Planned It" (feat. Courtney Williams), "He Paid It All" (feat. Chantae Cann), "Coming Back" (feat Lil' Mo) a  deep gospel tune and finally "Much More" on which the he uses parts of Skip Scarborough's "Love Ballad". (made famous initially by LTD (Jeffery Osbourne) in 1976 and then later by George Benson in 1979)

Doobie Powell (aka Hubert Leander Powell III) is from South Winsdor, Hartford, CT and is a gospel, jazz, funk artist. The latest album is his ninth since 2002. His first album "The Offspring" was not originally publicly available but was reissued in 2005.

PHATCATS [2021] - Jujuma [Self Released]

Well I'm not quite sure about his one. It is an annoyingly catchy jazz stepper which reminds me (a lot) of Van Morrison's "Moondance". It gets more poppy the further it gets in and deteriorates into a freak show around 2:20 sounding like Siouxsie & The Banshees! So if any radio guys decide to programme it, fade it out after 2:20 mins! It 'calms down' again at 3 mins so you could do an edit!

PHATCATS are from Germany and this appears to be their only release which came out last Friday (23 Jul 2021).

Don't shoot the messenger, as I'm only trying to highlight what's been released, remotely related to soul! One for the Mods perhaps?
