Lonnie Liston Smith's jazz funk masterpiece "Expansions" gets several 2021 updates via Japan’s UnitedSoul (DJ
Uchikawa and Soul-T) on R2 Records (released 23 Jul 2021). Is it really as long ago as 1975
when Lonnie Liston Smith originally recorded it on Flying Dutchman?
Osunlade was enlisted to bring the funk out in his extended “Yoruba
Soul Mix”. Ian Friday did the "Libation Remake" featuring Byron J Moore on vocals and
Chi-Town’s Excursions crew (Cordell Johnson & Skorpeze) take it into
club territory with their “Excursions Go Deep Remix”.
The first four mixes are available on 12" on Loft Records (available
here for £16)
I haven't yet settled on my favourite from the five, but on first
hearing I suspect it will be the Libation Remake, but probably only as
it is the closest to the original, which in all honesty just can't be
beaten!
I simply couldn't omit to include the original!
