A good soulful jazz track featuring Toronto jazz ensemble Four80East (who also record for Boomtang which is a Toronto label set up by remixers/producers The Boomtang Boys) and Chin (Pranam) Injeti.

This one's been out a couple of weeks, being released on 7 Jun 2021, and has been receiving quite a bit of airplay. "I like this one I do".

Sidibe [2021] - Feelin' 4 U [Self Released]

(Hannah) Sidibe, from L.A., featured on the blog in Feb 2021 with her last single "Breathwork". She released a new single yesterday (18 Jun 2021).

A singer with roots in Louisiana and Senegal and a five octave range who's released two albums to date and debuted in 2014 with a six track EP "Metaphysical".

Tomeka Williams [2021] - Beautifully Complicated [Self Released] (Full EP)

A debut six track EP by Tomika Williams was released 11 Jun 2021. It looks like she's only previously released two singles, both last year, "R&B Love" and "Beautifully Complicated", and both appear on the EP.  The standout track is "The Beginnings Of You And Me".

As is often the case with new artists, especially those who self-release, I can find no information about her.

S.E.L [2021] - Melodic Harmony (DJ Spen & Michele Chiavarini Vocal Remix) [Quantize]

DJ Spen (Sean Spencer) & Michele Chiavarini give S.E.L's recent single "Melodic Harmony", from her debut album "Loc'd In Consciousness", a revamp on 11 Jun 2021 and release it on DJ Spen's Quantize imprint. 

Only the radio edit is available on Spotify so I've embedded a YT video of the full extended version.

To promote her new album S.E.L is performing thee live dates in the coming weeks. The first is next Friday (25 Jun) where she headlines the Friday night show of Summer Soulstice Virtual which is a soul festival that raises money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care “in memory of Andy Weeks”, who sadly died of cancer in 2006. 

On 25 Jul she headlines Mi-Soulful Sundays at Boisdale Canary Wharf with a Full Live Band show and flanked by fellow UK Ladies Of Soul Vanessa Freeman and Michelle John. (NOTE this event may now have been postponed).

On 8 Aug she returns to the Margate Soul Festival where she will perform on the Sunset Stage at the Winter Garden, Margate.

Jennifer Hudson [2021] - Here I Am (Singing My Way Home) [Epic]

Jennifer Hudson's new single was pre-released yesterday (18 Jun 2021) and is an original song from the forthcoming Aretha Franklin biopic "Respect" soundtrack (in which she stars as Aretha). It's a deep soul tune, and , as you would expect, sung in the style of Ree-ree.

Respect has been been delayed a few times due to Covid but is scheduled for 13 Aug in the States and 10 Sep in UK.

Another Aretha series is currently being aired on Disney Plus "Genius: Aretha All Hail The Queen" starring Cynthia Erivo as Aretha.

Sargent Tucker [2021] - It's All Good [Ananda Records]

Sargent (Johnnie) Tucker was in a Californian group called The Two Things In One in the 70s who had a retrospective album "Together Forever - The Music City Sessions" released in 2011 which has got some very good sweet soul tunes on it ("Together Forever", a cover of "Walk On By", "Silly Song", "Confusion" and "Close The Door" (not the Teddy P song) as well as some early 70s funk and a cover of Stevie Wonder's "! Was Made To Love Her" and a funk/rock version of Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island" recently covered by Mario Biondi on his latest album "Dare".

He also released some solo material in the 80s/90s and has remerged in recent years. His latest recording "It's All Good" was released yesterday 18 Jun 2021.
