Priestess Ekene (Ekene Botofasina) released a debut six track EP "Runaway Love" on 11 Nov 2021.
She released a single earlier this year "Break Of Dawn" which appears on the EP and three in 2019.
The standout track is "Belong".
Priestess Ekene was born in Nigeria and raised in US (now living in Brooklyn , NY) since she was 3. She credits her Nigerian roots and musical studies in classical, jazz, funk and West African music while earning her B.A. in Music from Tufts University as the basis of her sound.
Over her 20 year career, Priestess Ekene has worked with a range of musical acts including Tomi Thomas, Dede, One Sound (Davido), DJ Java, Soulive, Goapele, Georgia Anne Muldrow, the Sai Anantam Ashram Singers feat. Surya Botofasina & Michelle Coltrane, Tuneyards, Shabaka Hutchings and many more.
She took the name "Priestess" after completing a pilgrimage to the Osun shrine in Osogbo, Nigeria in 2018. In Ekene's words Priestess means, "committing to being a student of and expression of divine feminine embodiment and liberation in all its forms.."
