I've resisted posting "Basementality" by Amp Fiddler
since it was released on 22 Oct 2021 as all tracks have been previously
released (digitally) over two EPs "Basementality 2" in 2014 and "Basementality 3" in 2015. The two EPs no longer appear to be available separately, so
may have been withdrawn after the release of the two EPs combined on this release? It's a bit academic in any case since you can buy tracks separately.
Detroit native Joseph "Amp" Fiddler is a multi-instrumentalist who got
started in the 80s and was a member Parliament/Funkadelic. He released his
debut solo album "With Respect" as Mr Fiddler in 1990 and has released around another ten albums
since.
Amp has performed on albums with Prince, Brand New Heavies, Ramsey
Lewis, George Clinton, the P-Funk All Stars, The Dramatics and Was (Not
Was) among others. His brother Thomas 'Bubz' Fiddler is a bass
player with the extended P-Funk family.
Notwithstanding the neo soul / funk on the album the standouts for me are
the Northern Soul 'style' stompers "Hold On (Original version)" and "Yeah". Other tracks that appeal are "More Than" and "Take It" featuring Raphael Saadiq. It really is a mixed bag so there will probably be something for everyone on this album.
