I thought twice before posting this new album from
Marcus Phillips as the clue is in the title "Covered" as it consists entirely of cover versions.
However, there is an interesting array of vocalists guesting that have all released new material this year e.g. BJ Kemp on Eric
Clapton's "Always In My Hair", Syndey Ranee' on Luther's "So Amazing", Jane Handcock om Musiq Soulchild's
"Love" and Paula Champion on Stevie wonder's "Love's In Need
Of Love Today". In addition another two Lilian Kane on Norah
Jones' "Don't Know Why" and DMO on EWF's "Can't hide Love".
The two remaining tracks without guest are instrumentals.
Marcus Phillips is from the Bay Area and is currently the bassist for
Jennifer Hudson but has also performed with artists such as Leela James,
Ledisi, Dave Hollister, Tony Toni Tone, Eric Roberson,
Keyshia Cole, Joe, Eric Benet, Kelly Clarkson and Goapele.
"Covered' is his sophomore album following "Perspective' last year, released 18 Oct 2021.
It's a pleasant enough 'listening' album without being particularly 'ground breaking'.
