Something a little off the beaten path. A reissue of a few of 80s Brit
jazz funk band Freeez's early singles by Far Out.
It's set for release on 12 Nov 2021 and consists of four sides
("Keep In Touch", "Keep In Touch (Edit)", "Stay" and "Hot Footing It") released across their first two 12" singles on founder John Rocca's Pink
Rhythm label in 1980 before they started having hits with "Southern
Freeez". "IOU" and the likes. However their first single included here
"Keep In Touch" was a minor hit reaching #49 on UK pop chart.
Freeez were founded in 1978 and ran until 1985 before they disbanded.
However by 1984 all the original members bar Peter Mass had left. The
early incarnation of the group included Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick who
later went on to form Light Of The World, Incognito. and now Sr4ta and
featured on guitar on all these 'private press' recordings. The Far Out
label is owned by his son Daniel Maunick.
A couple of tracks, "Keep In Touch" and "Stay", are available to listen to on BandCamp before release. The tracks
will also be released on 12" with the same Pink Rhythm label design. You may
wonder why as the originals are still in circulation but the second 12" will
set you back at least £150 on original vinyl.
