DJ Kool Keith - A Profile

Continuing a sporadic feature on soul radio presenters, today I bring you DJ Kool Keith who provided the following background on his soul journey into radio.

This feature is open to all soul DJs or radio presenters who would like to appear. Just provide some details of your own soul journey and credentials to soulstrutter@gmail for consideration.

Keith first got into soul music when he was very young via his sisters playing records on Motown, Stax, Atlantic, etc. in the house and by listening to Mike Raven and then Dave Simmons on the radio regularly during the mid 70s. From the mid to late 70s, his main influences were Robbie Vincent and Greg Edwards whose shows were of course legendary and a key part of soul fans weekly listening.

During the 80s Martin Collins and Louie Martin were regulars on local radio doing soul shows and Keith became friends with them and in the late 80s and early 90s he did quite a few gigs with Louie Martin. Following on from that he did some residencies in his hometown of Bedford but by 2012, decided radio was the avenue he wanted to go down and so has been playing soul music ever since on the local urban music station In2Beats and a couple of specialist soul stations Starpoint Radio and JFSR.

In mid 2021 he joined Soul Groove Radio as in his own words "he believes that it is a station that’s going places and its popularity is growing all the time". He has built up a following for the weekly soulful slow jams shows on JFSR and is now taking that forward by bringing that show format regularly every Sunday to Soul Groove Radio. He also plays new and current soul and R&B releases on his "Soulful Vibes Shows" when he does cover shows for other DJs. He also enjoys doing new soulful house mixes from time to time, which can be found on his Podomatic pages.

You can catch Keith on:
The Soulful Slow Jams Show on Soul Groove Radio every Sunday between 2pm till 4pm.

and regular cover shows on his local urban station in2beats when required where he plays new & contemporary more up-tempo tunes.

If you miss the shows they are always posted and available on his podomatic page:

I don't get as much time as I would like listening to the multitude of shows that are around but I did take time to listen to one of his recent shows and have to say that he has a pleasant and relaxed presentation style and features a range of music spanning new releases thru to old school. I've recently got to know know him through the blog via messenger and he's a very amenable and decent chap. If you've not yet tuned in to one of his shows then I think you may be pleasantly surprised.
