A 'forgotten' classic picked up from GVB's radio show yesterday. It was
written by Butch Ingram who is still active and releasing material on his
Society Hill label, so if Butch, or anyone who knows him, sees this then
ask him to re-record it as it's an absolute gem! In fact I've just noticed
that David Simmons released a couple of albums ("Love Tonight" & "Smother Me") on Society Hill only in 2015, but unfortunately this track is not on
either.
"All I Want To Do (Is Make A Little Love To You)" was issued as a single but it's a short edit of the full album track on
"The World Belongs To Me" released in 1979 and later reissued on CD by Expansion in 2011.
David Simmons was school friends with Bunny Sigler and
was in The Exzels with him. He later formed Neo Experience in 1975 which
included Vera Brown (who would later join The Richie Family) and Vincent Unto
(Millionaires "You've Got To Love Your Baby" on Castle who later became
Executive Suite). They recorded two singles on Sahara in the mid 70s including
the in-demand tune "Human" and "(Eternal) Sunshine".
Whilst a superb singer, unfortunately, as he sounded similar to Teddy
Pendergrass, he seemed to get overlooked as I can't find any of his singles
entering even the US R&B chart.
