Daptone are releasing a compilation of live recordings "The Daptone Super Soul Revue Live at the Apollo" taken over four
nights in 2014. It is scheduled for release on 1 Oct 2021, but three tracks
have already been made available.
The album contains 32 tracks from artists such as Saun & Star, Sugarman
3, Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens, Menahan Street Band, The
Como Mamas, Charles Bradley featuring The Extraordinaires, The Budos Band,
Antibalas, The Dap-kings, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings.
The best of those released so far is a superb deep soul cut "Let Love Stand A Chance" from the late
Charles Bradley. It is from his second album "Victim Of Love" (2013) and was also released as a single on flip to "Strictly Reserved For
You".
Sadly another artist on the bill no longer with us is the great Sharon Jones. Both had cancer, but Jones died from a stroke not the cancer which, after
recovering from the first stroke she had whilst watching the 2016
Presidential election results, she jokingly attributed to the shock of
Donald Trump being elected as president!
