A bit of a break from the wispy neo soul and the female vocalists and one for the more traditionalists.
Anthony Butler is someone I can find little about but a quick search on
Discogs identifies a few gospel compilations he's featured on going back
to at least 1997. Some of the tracks were featured on a 2015 EP
"Judgement's Coming", but these are real traditional gospel
tunes.
Digging a bit deeper two of the songs were originally recorded in 1955 (on 10" shellac on Apollo records) and another two in 1958, so that must make him at least 80 assuming he was only 15 when the first tracks was recorded. Makes me wonder if he is the same singer?
He's released two secular tracks on 13 Aug 2021. "I'll Lay It On You" is a more
contemporary / old school tune, with "You're So Fine" being a
deep soul ballad. Both songs writing credits are to him.
