An album titled "If I Was An Artist", released on 12 Jul 2021, from an artist calling himself "Wryter".
I got 'seduced' into this album from the lead track "What About Me",
but the remainder of the album is mainly R&B.
It's another that appears to be a debut for Wryter as I can find nothing else from
the artist. However, checking out the writer credits the name James
Jayshawn Champion crops up on most songs and with some further digging
his real name is James Smith from Bedford, OH (although his facebook
states he now lives in Atlanta, GA). He works at Boy Wonder Records
which he co-owns with current O'Jay Eric Nolan Grant and has written for
the likes of Joe, Faith Evans, Kenny Lattimore & Chante Moore,
Ginuwine and Conya Doss.
He recorded some material as
Champion & Coles
in 2018.
The album needs to be listened to a few times as it's a 'grower', along
with "What About Me" there are some good tracks including "Miracles", "You Won"
and "Smoke". He explains the concept for the album on "Mr. Sandman" ...
interesting!
