I don't know how I missed this album "Diverse, Pt. 3" from Joseph Malik that was released a month ago now on 25 Jun 2021!
The album contains "I Quit My 9 to 5" which I did post the previous month.
The killer track is "Looking Right Back At You Pt.1" but it's a pretty good album throughout.
Joseph Malik was a member of a duo called Blacka'nized in the late 90s. He has released a trilogy of albums titled Diverse (the first in 2002 and second 2018) as well as another called "Aquarius Songs" in 2004.
He
grew up in Glasgow's Easterhouse in the 70s (a notoriously bad area in the 70s where there were riots) after being abandoned by his
white mother at birth because of the colour of his skin. He was subjected to
racial abuse, having a pot of white paint thrown over him at the age of five
and called a 'black bastard'! At the age of fourteen he was beaten up and nearly killed by
four police officers. It's hardly surprising then that he
became a community activist against racism, even more so since the death of George Floyd!
Stories like these make my blood boil, but us white people will never know what it's like to be coloured unless these experiences are aired and shared and we are shamed into taking action and calling out racism whenever and wherever we encounter it. It was only a couple of weeks ago it publicly reared its ugly head again against the three young English footballers!
