Jhené Aiko originally released "Summer 2020" last July on her album "Chilombo". It doesn't appear
to have been released as a single, but has resurfaced on a new
compilation titled "R&B Picnic" released today (27 Jul 2021).
It samples Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness" which was originally a B side to "Spirit Of The Boogie" in 1975 but was reissued as B side to their 1981 hit "Get Down On It". Many will remember it from ten years later when it was sampled by Jazzy Jeff (Jeff Towne) & Fresh Prince (Will Smith) for their 1991 hit "Summertime".
I did consider posting the whole compilation but there are good and bad
on there. the best being Keyshia Cole "Love" from 2005. The compilation
spans 1995 with D'Angelo's "Lady" right up to 2021 with Snoh Aalegra's
"Dying 4 Love" from her album "Temporary Highs In The Violet Sky" released just over two weeks ago.
