The last release from Miles Away (founded by Acid Jazz label manager Dom Williams in 2019) was a reissue of a song
recorded in 1983 by Delores Fuller "One More Chance Lord", released 21 May 2021, which I posted at the end
of April.
Their latest release is another 80s gospel song, released in 1981 on Lamont
Butler's solitary album "It's Time For A Change". Whilst originally released on Blessed (a Louisville, KT label which may have been owned by his father Clifford Butler) in 1981, many of the songs were written a decade before.
The track in question is "Ungodly War", which got a reissue last year on Acid Jazz/Miles Away as a single along
with a reissue of the whole album. The latest version on Miles Away is given Al Kent's Unheavenly Edit (beefing up the drums and a bit of restructuring) which is due
out on 9 Jul 2021 and available to pre-order (digital £3.50 /vinyl £9) on
BandCamp.
I'm not sure how to describe the track, it's funk, jazz, gospel, soul and may appeal to the Northern Soul crew with it's 'driving beat'.
The flipside of the vinyl release will be "Get Up And Praise The Lord", a funky gospel rocker with spoken
intro.
