The Explorers Club was formed in 2005 by Jason Brewer in Charleston SC.
They are a blue-eyed soul band catering, I guess, for the Carolinas beach
scene who seem to cover classic 60s hits. They have just released a new single on 9 Apr 2021.
It seems a bit of an odd choice for a new single, but hey, The Tams 1968 original is a classic. It was reissued in UK in 1970 and reached #32 and then again in 1971 on the B side to their unexpected #1 hit of a reissue of their 1964 tune 'Hey Girl Don't Bother Me' owing to demand from UK Northern soul scene. Probably regarded as 'youth club NS' these days,
but when we were young and all first getting into NS it was a
classic.
They have also done a version of Dennis Yost & The
Classic IV's 'Stormy' which was a big tune on NS scene by The Supremes
about 20 years ago when a previously unreleased 1969 recording by them appeared on 'The Never Before Released Masters' CD in 1987. It has been covered dozens of times by many
artists including O.C. Smith and Billy Eckstine.
The track features Lannie Counts who I posted a
new single
from in Feb.
