Numero Group has reissued an EP (digital only) of four rare sides by Sweet &
Innocent & The Memphis Mustangs. They were originally released on
Memphis label Active in 1972 and 1973. Sweet & Innocent were Rubye James and Linda Royston.
'Express Your Love' and 'Cry Love' are early 70s sweet soul ballads,
along with a funky/crossover tune 'I Don't Know What You're Full Of''.
The EP is completed by an instrumental 'Express Your Love Theme' by The
Memphis Mustangs.
Active was owned by Ron and Sari Bledsoe. Only four releases are listed for the label, these two, plus one by a
group called Epic and another by First Company. Seven of the eight sides on the label were written by George Hines and
Willie (Toast) McClain, the latter co-wrote
'Just An Illusion'
released on Charm City in 1983 by Toast (so could McClain be a member of
Toast?).
