London reggae/soul singer, writer and producer Phillip Leo (Philip
Ernest Pottinger) released his debut single in 1988 followed by a debut
album in 1990. To date he has released seven albums and has just
released a compilation 'The Best Of Phillip Leo'. Whilst most of the compilation is
reggae and lovers rock, the last four tracks are soul tunes.
I first
became aware of him with his 1994 release of a cover of Skipworth &
Turner's 'Thinking About Your Love', which surprisingly isn't on the
album, but I suspect that the songs included are only his own
compositions under his writing name P. Pottinger.
The real standout track for me is 'Don't Judge Me (Mellow Mix)' which
is a superb neo/modern soul tune originally released as single in 2018
with four differnt mixes. It featured on Expansion's 2019 edition of their Luxury Soul compilation series. I've selected the 'choice cuts' from the
compilation below which includes a few lovers rock tunes. Also check out 'Feel So Good' a superb soulful lovers rock two-stepper from his 2018 album 'Faithfully'. He also did a 'Soul Mix' of it on 'Mellow Soul Moods (The Soul Remixes)' in 2017.
