The prolific Dr. (Greg) Packer is at it again with a reworking of the
Fatback Band's 80s weekender anthem, which soul DJ Steve Walsh (RIP) had a UK
top 10 hit with in 1987. It features UK's Kenny Thomas on
vocals. I don't feel that it adds much to the original.
Fatback's version wasn't even an R&B hit in the US but charted on three occasions in UK in 1984 #49, 1986 #55 and 1987 #7. The backing was used by Ca$hflow in 1986 on their 'Mine All Mine' which ironically charted higher than Fatback's first two entries, reaching #15 in 1986, which perhaps is what prompted the company to try a third time with it?
Ashanti did a cover of it in 2003 on her Chapter II album. It was also released as a promo CDr and an unofficial 12".
It's not officially released until 30 Apr 2021 but it has been posted on
YT by Liberty Bell Studios and is available (for per-order?) on
TraxSource.
