Aliah Sheffield + Soul'd Out [2021] - Since You've Been Around [Fairground Records]

New album from Aliah Sheffield (aka Nikki Aliah) + Soul'd Out, 'Since You've Been Around', was released 26 Mar 2021.

Aliah Sheffield debuted in Dec 2014 with 'Where I'm At (Is in Love with You)' on William DeVaughan's Sound Gems label, which also got a later release in Mar 2015 with 3 remixes.

It's a 'traditional' soul album with hints of gospel. There's a wonderful version of Aretha's 'Ain't No Way'. Other highights include 'Before I Go' and 'Time And Space', both of which sound like they could have been recorded in the late 60s, 'Love It All' is a mellow soul ballad, 'Travelling Soldier' reminds me of something Donny Hathaway could have recorded. 

It's a good, solid album all through from an artist I haven't listened to before but she certainly has my attention after this outing. Highly recommended for lovers of 'real' soul.
