Eye To Eye has been doing the rounds for several weeks (released 25 Nov 2020) and is riding high in UK Soul charts, but I realised that I haven't 'featured' it except in the chart listings. Having listened to some fairly bland releases over recent days this one jumps out at me.
Output / Input are a group of internationally recognised musicians that have toured the world playing music, and with artists including Chaka Khan, Christina Aguilera, Lee Ritenour, Bryan Ferry, Diana Ross, George Benson and more.
Their first musical offering was a cover version of Earth Wind & Fire classic 'In The Stone', followed by Michael Jackson's 'Get On The Floor' then 'Only So Much Oil In The Ground' by Tower Of Power.
You can listen to their other material on their YT Channel.
Eye To Eye
It is, of course, a cover of Chaka Khan's 'Eye To Eye' from her 'I Feel For You' album in 1984. It didn't get a US single release, only in Europe and reached #16 in UK.
Shannon Pearson on lead vocals. She is an accomplished session singer appearing on albums from George Duke, Jeffrey Osbourne, Howard Hewett, Sy Smith and others. She has also appeared with Patti Labelle, Heather Headley, Regina Bell, Anthony Hamilton and Al Jarreau.
Take A Stab
Their new single released 27 Dec 2020 has London based session singer Katie Holmes-Smith on lead, who has performed backing vocals for Adele on her 2016 tour and has recently toured with Ollie Murs.
This song was originally recorded by Danish artist Annekei on her 2009 album Touch, produced by jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour, which appears to have only been released in Japan.
What Cha' Gonna Do For Me
Released 31 Oct 2020, was another Chaka Khan song What Cha' Gonna Do For Me from 1981, but also recorded by Averege White Band in 1980 on their 'Shine' album. Vocals were shared between Shannon Pearson and Katie Holmes-Smith.
