Both tracks unreleased track by Phoenix Express / Eddie & Ernie from 1972. They first surfaced on a Kent compilation 'Lost Friend's' in 2002. Kent also released 'Sunny Day' on their Deep Soul imprint on vinyl 45 as Eddie & Ernie in 2017 with 'A Man To Love A Woman' on the flip. However, this wasn't the first vinyl 45 release as Daptone's Ever-Soul imprint released an alternative release to catalogue no ES-102 Bullets Don't Have Eyes as ES-102 C in 2009 with a 'You Make Life A Sunny Day' as an alternate flip to 'In These Very Tender Moments'.
Eddie & Ernie [2009] - You Make My Life A Sunny Day [Ever-Soul ES-102]
SoulStrutter's Rating: 9.2
Sublime deep soul group harmony.
Before we get to the flip side of Eddie & Ernie, there are a couple of other versions of 'You Make My Life A Sunny Day'.
Jacqueline Jones [1972] - You Make My Life A Sunny Day [Loadstone 3949]
SoulStrutter's Rating: 9.2
Female version of Eddie & Ernie's song. I wonder how this song made its way to San Francisco from Phoenix in 1972? The flip side 'It's Beautiful World' was also written by the same composers i.e. Eddie Campbell & Ernie Johnson and Pete James which (oddly) only got a UK release in 1972 on Jay Boy by them billed as Ernie & Ed which was their only 'current' release as all others from them in UK are reissues.
Bobby Barnes [1980] - You Make My Life (A Sunny Day) [Poormans P-001]
SoulStrutter's Rating: 9.0
Modern (1980) take on Eddie & Ernie's deep soul side. Bobby Barnes also recorded some sides for Phoenix's Raina label so there may have been a connection with Eddie & Ernie.
Eddie & Ernie [2009] - Bullets Don't Have Eyes [Ever-Soul ES-102]
SoulStrutter's Rating: 7.8
Unreleased crossover track from 1972.
