Lizzie Berchie [2023] Don't Get Ahead of Yourself [Tru Community]

Emerging artist Lizzie Berchie from Newham, London, was featured with her single "I Hope" in Apr '23. She follows it with the jazz flavoured "Don't Get Ahead of Yourself" on 2 Aug.

In between, on 4 Jul, she released a, gospel/spiritual like, single "Flaws & All" (which we've included the music video for below).

Lizzie is of Ghanaian heritage and gained an internship at Parlophone where she currently works as audience & engagement coordinator working with the labels artists such as Rachel Chinouriri and Gabriels .

To date she's released five singles and a five track, EP "Under The Sun" was released in July '22 and was extended to a full album with three additional tracks in Feb '23. Both include her first two singles. i.e. "Nsala" and "Pass Time".

William DeVaughn [2023] - Thank You - Thank You (For Your Love) (Remastered 2023) [Sound Gems Records]

Regular visitors may recall that a few weeks ago we received a message from writer/producer and Sound Gems owner, Frank Fioravanti, notifying us of the release of a previously unreleased archive recording by William DeVaughn that he found on a tape. The song is "Thank You - Thank You (For Your Love)" written by DeVaughn and produced by Frank.

The recording was a bit warbly, as the tape had been languishing in the vaults for close to 50 years, but Frank told us that he may attempt to improve it. He has contacted us today to inform us that he has now remastered and reissued the song. The improvement can be heard instantaneously, it's crisper and brighter for sure, but don't take our word for it, compare with the original via the link above for yourself.

For those who missed it first time around, it was recorded around 1974 for DeVaughn's debut album "Be Thankful For What You Got" on Roxbury but wasn't finished in time to be included so was scratched.

To clarify a comment on the last post, Frank confirms that it must have been recorded around 1974/75 as he didn't produce DeVaughn prior to that and the sound is different owing to a different rhythm section on the recording who he was not able to get together to re-record the song.

For more on William DeVaughn we did his discography a few years ago, obviously we will now have to update it!

Elsa [2023] - Fall [Self Released]

Elsa Geyer is an upcoming singer-songwriter from South London who is making waves on the live alternative R&B scene. By day she also works as an events manager and community creative/content creator.

She released her first single "As You Please" in Apr this year with a BNMO Remix of it in Jun. Her latest single "Fall" arrived on 31 Jul.

Alina Baraz [2023] - Keep Me In Love [Self Released]

L.A. based, Cleveland, OH, native, Alina Baraz was born to Russian-Ukrainian parents. She moved to L.A. at the age of 19 to pursue a career in music and released her first song in 2013. An EP "Urban Flora" followed in 2015 in collaboration with Danish musician Galimatias (Matias Saabye Køedt).

She has consistently released music since and her latest single "Keep Me In Love" was delivered on 4 Aug which is a light 'n' fluffy neo soul tune.

The 7 Day Weekend feat. Sonya Rae Taylor [2023] - High [High Wire Records]

Everyone's dream ... The 7 Day Weekend! The name of a duo Alan Evans (drums) and Kris Yunker (keyboards) who combine their song writing and production to create, what they describe as, 'electrorganic music', which they go on to say is born from and influenced by the sounds and compositions of 60's and 70's film composers.

Their latest single "High" (21 Jul) features the sweet vocals of Boston's Sonya Rae Taylor and appears to be only their fifth single since their first in May 2020. In addition they have released a full, eponymous, album in Sep 2020. The new single is from their forthcoming sophomore album "Dream Fantastic".

We thought that we recognised the name as Alan Evans has featured here before under an alter ego of Crushed Velvet & The Velveteers as we posted an album "Love & Truth" in Jun '21. He is co-founder and drummer of trio Soulive who have released almost two dozen albums since 1999 and are still going strong. He's also released a couple of solo albums and four albums under the moniker The Alan Evans Trio.

Yunker is an acclaimed keyboard player and composer.

Izzy Bizu [2023] - Flower Power [Hi-Tea Records]

We're not sure whether this is meant as an EP or the regular practice of bundling tracks that will feature on an upcoming EP/album as it includes three songs, a new one and two others that have been released as singles but not consecutive ones.

"Dumb" was released in Nov '22 and "With You" in May '23. The new song "Flower Power" is the best of the three.

Izzy Bizu is Isobel Bizu Beardshaw an English/Ethiopian singer from London who won the BBC Music Introducing award in 2016.

We had this drafted and ready to post on Friday but felt that it was rather poppy (certainly "Dumb" and "With You" are .. so deferred it as there were others to post) but notice that it's now featured on the Amazon UK Hot New Releases at #8 this morning, so some must like it!
