Razzy Bailey [1973] - I Hate Hate [Boblo #314]

I almost forgot this week's anti-war song. Two versions of "I Hate Hate". The first by Razzy (Bailey), (a country singer who died last Aug aged 82) from 1974 and a slightly more uptempo UK cover by Danny Williams (1977).

The first Razzy issue came out in 1973 on Boblo (which I think may have been the B side) as Razzy Bailey which didn't have the kids singing in the background. It was then released again on Aquarian as Razzy & The Neighborhood Kids in Jun and got a national release on MGM in Jun 1974 simply as Razzy.

Around the time of Danny Williams cover he had a 1967 song reissued which was being played on the Northern Soul Scene "Who's Little Girl Are You" and prior to "I Hate Hate" released a song called "Dancin' Easy" which reached #30 on UK pop chart which was based on "The Right One" by Chris Gunning for Martini TV commercials.

I've just discovered that Matt Bianco covered it in 2019 ... why didn't he rename it to "That's Mattini" boom boom!?

Sydney Raneé [2022] - W.U.A.G.I [Self Released] (Full EP) PREMIERE

L.A.'s "Sultry Songstress" Sydney Raneé, who has featured on the blog many times, the last  time in Jan 2022 with her chart topping single "Wake Up & Get It", is back with a new four track EP "W.U.A.G.I" which is set for release on Friday (13 May 2022). It includes her last single and the one before "One Night Only" (Aug 2021) and two new songs "Catch These Feelings" and "Reconnect", all self written and produced.

Sydney is certainly getting noticed as she has shared her music via digital and live performances for Jam in the Van, Songbird Sessions, Melrose Trading Post, Acoustic Sessions LA, and SoFar Sounds and has also featured in 911: Lone-star; Dynasty and MTV’s The Real World as well as being invited as a featured performer on the 2020 Daytime Emmys. She now also has a weekly residency at The Rhythm Room in down-town L.A.

Her new project explores four stages of love: Self-Love, Falling in Love, Lust and Exclusive Love. The EP opens with the title track "Wake Up and Get It" a song addressing the stress and weight of the world while balancing feelings and the need for control (Self-Love) which Syndey states contains elements of TLC with a kick of Mary J. Blige. . "Catch These Feelings" follows which explores the early phases of courting (Falling in Love). Track three, "Reconnect", takes the listener on a journey to reconnect with an old flame in a stripped back 90’s R&B inspired vibe (Lust). Finally "One Night Only" is packed with a driving beat and Sydney’s dreamy vocals, about gaining access to a crush (Exclusive Love).

Anzushi [2022] - Where The Rain Stops [Self Released] (Full Album)

Anzushi (aka Hecs Morales), from the Philippines, is yet another relatively new artist who emerged in 2020. He's release only one single, yet this is his second album "Where The Rain Stops", released today (11 May 2022).

The track that has got my interest is "Raindrops" along with "Zhonya's"

Tamara Dos Santos [2022] - Would You Wait? [LMenT Sounds]

I found this new single, "Would You Wait?" from Tamara Dos Santos, on Friday yet didn't post it as I think my ears were overloaded listening to so much new material. However, better late than never, and this has certainly pricked my ears up listening again.

Tamara Dos Santos is from London and this is her fourth single since her first in 2019 and she has also released a seven track album "To Endure..." in 2020.

I noticed on her Twitter account that there was a Union Jack flag and another flag I couldn't recognise so with a bit of investigation it turns out that it''s the flag of Angola, so presumably she has Angolan heritage. That's one for free for the quiz goers lol!

Thaïs Lona [2022] - CUBE [Mister Ibé] (Full Album)

Thaïs Lona is a relatively new French artist who debuted in 2020. She released her first album "CUBE" on 6 May which includes her full catalogue of everything she's released to date (i.e. 4 singles and a five track EP "Dancing Again") but it also includes 7 new songs amongst the 13 tracks.

I think it's an album that you may need to listen to a few times to fully appreciate as it's quite avant-garde and not many tracks jumped out immediately on first listen, although I do quite like "Heritage" which is mainly a jazzy instrumental, "Gem" and "180°" with "Le Game" beginning to get radio play.
