MJ Ultra [2022] - The Recipe [Self Released] (Full Album)

MJ Ultra from L.A. released his debut album "The Recipe" on 25 Mar 2022. It's a blue-eyed, R&B/pop  slanted album but "Through The Night" was picked up as a UK Soul Chart breaker last week. It's not really my kinda thing so I won't even attempt to highlight any standouts but those who like R&B 'may' appreciate it?

If it is your bag then you may be interested to know that he has two dates in London in the next week performing at The Bedford, Balham on 13 Apr and Half Moon, Putney on 18 Apr 2022.

Following their recent hit with a cover of Al Johnson's "It's Been Too Long", The Whispers are back assisted by Maurice Joshua with "Praise His Holy Name (Steppers Remix)" on their own Kingdom Records label. The original version appeared on their 2009 gospel album "Thankful".

The Whispers are approaching 60 years in the business since they were founded in 1963 and are now a trio of original members Walter and Wallace Scott along with ex Friends Of Distinction member Leaveil Degree who replaced Gordy Harmon in 1973.

Kim Tavares [2022] - Tired (Do You Hear Me Now) [Digital Jukebox Records]

Kim Tavares' first release since appearing at the Back To Love Weekender in Southport (UK) in Sep 2021 is "Tired (Do You Hear Me Now)" released on Saturday (9 Apr 2022). She is now using her full surname Tavares as oppose to Tavar she has used up to now.

I understand that she has now signed to a label after releasing her debut album "My Story" independently last year. It seems that all her previous material is no longer available on the major platforms so perhaps they may be reissued and promoted by her new label?

Jarrod Lawson [2022] - Footsteps In The Dark [Dome]

It's great to see this song, performed live by Jarrod Lawson for years, finally get an official release.  It is, of course, the classic Isley Brothers' stepper "Footsteps In The Dark" from their 1977 album "Go For Your Guns" which I don't believe ever saw an A side release although it was on the B side to "Groove With You".

Jarrod performed the song on his recent "Be The Change Tour" tour last Oct/Nov.

For additional interest, I've included a couple of live video versions by Jarrod along with the Isley's original and a lesser known cover from 1990 by Body on MCA. Body were sisters Letitia, Peggy and Francina Body from Detroit who released two albums and had a top 20 R&B hit with the song which was co-produced by Ronald Isley and his wife at the time Angela Winsbush. I'm sure I can hear Ronald Isley on backing vocals towards the end.
