Marshella Muzic [2022] - Glow [Self Released]

The new single "Glow" from Marshella Musik is currently only available on Bandcamp (since 8 Feb 2022)  but is due for wider release imminently. She posted a video for it on her YouTube channel on 10 Feb.

It's her first release since her debut album "Moodz" from 10 Sep 2021 which was very well received

Agnez Mo [2022] - Patience [Self Released]

I was going to say: some more blue-eyed neo soul for those that feel it, however, Agnez Mo (Agnes Monica Muljoto) is Indonesian with German, Japanese and Chinese heritage. Whilst she's still only 35, she has been active since 1992 (aged 8) recording children's albums.

She released a new single "Patience", along with a promotional video premiering for it, yesterday (11 Feb 2022), which I think is pretty good.

Divine818 [2022] - Faded Buzzed Love [Caligirl Makin Music] (Full EP)

Divine818 is Chalinda Bradley from Pacoima in the San Fernando Valley, CA, hence the 818 in the name which is the area code. She now lives in Atlanta, GA.

She began as a DJ, then songwriter, and taught herself how to make music on her Mac using Garage Band and LogicPro software with the idea to sell demos.

She's released five singles, the last two appearing on her debut EP "Faded Buzzed Love". I listened to it yesterday and only the opening track "Nowhere Fast" stood out but listening again "Ur Good 4 Me" has also caught my attention and I think it may be an EP that needs a few listens.

Avery [2021] - The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite) [Supreme Music 2000/Underground Sound]

I've noticed a new (so far unreleased) version of this song appearing on a couple of playlists in the last week by J. Henry with the same featured artists (below) as the original version which was released on 14 Sep 2021.

It's a cover of the Quincy Jones album track "The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)" from "Back On The Block" written by Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, Siedah Garrett and El DeBarge and featured vocalists Al B. Sure!, Barry White, El DeBarge and James Ingram.

The 2021 version is by Avery (Avery K Richardson) featuring Toni (Antonio McGaha), The Journal & Creole King.

It has been covered a couple of times in recent years, by Omar Wilson, Raheem DeVaughn, Shawn Stockman & Sisqo in Aug 2020 and by Jeter Jones last January (2021) as "Southern Soul Garden" from the album "Jones Boyz Ent Presents: Da Fish Grease Friday".

It was also recorded by Silk, (the 90s Atlanta group not the group that was Ujima and became Anglo Saxon Brown who's membership included Debra Henry who is the aunt of Nicole Henry currently on UK soul charts with her album "Time To Love Again") on their 2005 album "Always & Forever".

The Veterans [2022] - More & More [Funky Sensations Records]

I'm pretty sure that this new single from The Veterans titled "More & More" is probably sampling one or more tunes but can't work out what, if anything, they are. It sounds like a late 70s Philly track a la Peoples Choice / Instant Funk type thing and is quite effective. I'm wondering if the 'more and more' section is taken from Teddy P's "The More I Get, The More I Want" which incidentally also received yet another remix yesterday by The Martinez Brothers.

(I think DJ KK 'the soul emperor' needs to get his ears around this one and let us know what the samples (if any) are!)

I don't suppose for a minute that The Veterans is a real band, more than likely a producer/group of producers. Nothing is given away on the credits as everything is simply credited to The Veterans.

Given their type of music i.e. Disco/House, I had the brainwave of checking Traxsource to see if there was any info there and zilch although they have over 200 tracks listed there since 2013.

The best I could find was this on Beatport:

When a versed musician meets young talent it is most likely that something totally different and extraordinary will pop up. The Veterans is a project caught up right in the middle - balancing the opposites.Their work is marked by the use of solid grooves merged with emotional shapes. They draw a single line into their metrical composition giving birth to an innovative mood, fueled with all the nuances of melancholy.

Funky Sensations Record is part of BeachGrove who release a similar sort of output.

Hollyy [2022] - If You're Ever Lost [Gumpa Records] (Full EP)

Chicago-based, 'garage soul boys' Holly are Tanner Bednar (vocals), Brandon Couture (guitar), Peter Giere (keyboard), Rafe Soto (drums) and Dominic Zeier (bass).  They formed in March 2020 and in that short time have already amassed a dozen singles and released their third EP "If You're Ever Lost" on 11 Feb 2022.

The track that drew me to the EP initially was "Where You Are" with "Someone Just Like Me" being in a similar retro vein.

Distinctly blue-eyed, yes, but those tracks have some sort of charm for some of us 'old soulies'.
