The Dells [2022] - The Philadelphia Re​-​edit Sessions [Simpson Uniquity] (Full Album)

If you recall a couple of weeks ago I posted a compilation of Paul Simpson re-edits of Joe Simon's Gamble & Huff material "The Philadelphia Re-edit  Sessions" which was only to be available for two weeks. Yeah right, marketing hype, you probably thought, as I did, but indeed they are no longer available.

Simpson has done another set, this time of The Dells material produced by Norman Harris and Ron Tyson, also called "The Philadelphia Re​-​edit Sessions" which again is only available for two weeks, so if you want it make sure you grab it.

It consists of nine tracks and I'll post the track listing as I didn't with the Joe Simon release and now don't remember what all the tracks were!

All of the tracks are from from their 1977 Mercury period from their last two (of three) albums for the label "They Said It Couldn't Be Done" and "Love Connection"

A couple of the obvious standouts are "Our Love" and "Don't Trick Me Treat Me"

Ravyn Lenae Feat. Steve Lacy [2022] - Skin Tight [Atlantic]

For the obvious reasons, Ravyn Lenae's voice immediately reminded me of Minnie Riperton. She released a new single "Skin Tight" today (1 Feb 2022). It is her first release for some time, since Sep 2020 to be exact with "Today".

Ravyn Lenae Washington is a 23 year old singer/songwriter from Chicago who debuted with an independent EP "Moon Shoes" in 2015 (aged just 16) which was reissued by Atlantic Records the following year when she was signed to the label.

The slightly 'disappointing' aspect about this release is that you would think that a major label could come up with something a little better than an animated video, or is it just me?

Chris Jasper [2022] - I Promise [Gold City] OUT NOW!

Veteran artist Chris Jasper has a new single "I Promise", posted last week on promo, which  I originally thought was scheduled for release on Valentine's Day but it has been released today (1 Feb 2022). It's from a forthcoming album "Raise The Bar" due later this year around late spring/summer.

Chris, of course, is probably best known for his work with The Isley Brothers between 1973-83 working on eleven of their best selling albums. In 1984 the group splintered to become Isley-Jasper-Isley (Ernie & Marvin) who released three albums between 1984-87. Jasper continued as a solo artists and has released over a dozen albums plus a few gospel albums.

Despite it being #1 R&B, they were pipped to the top of the UK charts by The Housemartins (which included Norman 'Fatboy Slim'  Cook as a member) with an acapella cover of "Caravan Of Love" at Christmas 1986.

Jasper lived in the same apartment building as The Isleys in Cincinnati, OH, and his sister Elaine married Rudolph Isley.

I was racking my brain trying to think what this song reminded me of and I think it is possibly  the melody that is reminiscent of Kool & The Gang's "Cherish"?

GLOBAL:SOUL TAKEOVER 18th Feb 2022 The Night Owl, Finsbuy Park, London

GLOBAL:SOUL is hosting a TAKEOVER event at The Night Owl, 5 Station Place, Finsbury Park, London N4 2DH on Friday, 18th Feb 2022. 

Live Showcase 7pm - 10:30pm followed by After Party 10:30pm - 4:00am.

Artists appearing will be Sandra-Mae Lux, Krishawna and Raelle, all of whom have previously featured on the blog. Most recently of course is Sandra-Mae Lux with her new single "You And Me Tomorrow". 

Raelle released her debut four track EP "Wake Up Sunshine" in Sep 2021 and Krishawna's last releases was in April 2021 with "Gonna Make It" from her debut album "Full Disclosure" (1 Mar 2021).

Tickets are available from EventBrite with a range of prices starting at £10 for Super Early Bird Showcase + After Party, then £15 (Early Bird), then £20 (Advance) and finally £25 (Standard).

Ty Juan [2022] - Mood 22 [Rydah Muzik Ent.] (Full Album)

Ty Juan (Tyjuan Peavy) released his fourth album last week (26 Jan 2022). It follows a trilogy of albums titled Signature, II & III. The new one is "Mood 22".

His most recent material prior to the album was featured on "Regi Myrix Presents BlakButtahVOL2!!" where he appeared on four tracks in August and followed it with a single "Love On The Dancefloor" in Sep 2021.

The latest album is very R&B slanted so should appeal to those disposed to it. The track that is gaining most attention in soul circles is "Good Love" and for ballad lovers "When & If" is my choice cut which features Keni Myles along with "Changes".

UPDATE: "When & If" has been chosen as SoulStrutter Selection of the Week for week 05 2022.

Ivy Lo [2022] - A Love Ride [Self Released] (Full EP)

Ivy Lo is the stage name of 19 year old Skylar Corrin Parhms from Monroe, LA, who began her singing career in 2020 with Southern University A&M College, Baton Rouge, jazz band.

Her first single was "Outta Town" which is the opening track of her debut EP "A Love Ride" released on Sat. 29 Jan 2022, on which she wrote all the songs.

The EP has been floating around on promo for several weeks as it featured in Starpoint Radio's Breakers Chart on 10 Jan 2022.

"Slip N' Vibe" from it was played on Global Soul's New Music Hour on Saturday evening but to be honest any of the five tracks could have been chosen as they are all very good. A excellent debut!

UPDATE: This EP has been withdrawn as she signed with a new label who wish to re-promote it and will be released 14 Feb 2022 with Sip N' Dip being released as a single on 1 Apr. Pre-order HERE.
